Since 2011, registering a .fr domain has been open to anyone residing in an EU member state, as well as Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Iceland.
For a company, having an establishment in France or one of these countries is enough. The domain's administrative contact must be based in France — something we check systematically at registration.
How .fr domains are regulated
The .fr namespace is administered by AFNIC (Association Française pour le Nommage Internet en Coopération), the body designated by the French State to manage the extension technically and administratively, under Article L45 of the Postal and Electronic Communications Code. Registration must go through an accredited registrar — AFNIC does not process requests directly.

Choosing a name with a sensitive term
